The Top Ten Most Spectacular Comic Book Weapons

Some superheroes are lucky enough to have been born with their latent weaponry. Some, however, have had to rely on outside and unseen forces in order to have weaponry forged either for or to them. Here are 10 of the most amazing weapons in comicdom.
10. Iron Man's Armor
Each boot contains two miniature, magnetically powered turbines, which compress ambient air into incandescence to generate thrust, and their maximum speed is Mach 1.2 (960 mph) Practically unlimited range at moderate speeds. About 1,800 miles (100% load), 3,500 miles (50% load). Unloaded, the suit can attain an altitude of 70,000 feet. At maximum load the average altitude is 8,000 feet. The suit is equipped with internal guidance, laser gyroscopic movement sensor and LORAN C as mutual/redundant navigation and ground positioning aids. Each boot is equipped with small cryogenic storage tank containing liquid air which are able to fuel the mini-turbines is non-atmospheric environments. Iron Man's suit's primary weapons are Repulsor Rays: Pulsed, laser-path guided, medium-density plasma projectors. The suit palm blasters are able to fire for very short periods of time. The duty cycle allows for a 25% cooling period. The outer surface of the armor is equipped with devices, which are able to convert thermal energy into usable electricity. Above a certain temperature the suit employs an electronic cooling network to protect the suit operator.

9. The Mask's Mask

The mask affects the personality of the wearer by removing all personal social inhibitions. Taken another way, the wearer takes off his metaphorical masks by putting on an actual mask. Not only is the wearer's Id totally in control, but the power imbued by the Mask gives him or her the ability to realize those impulses. Therefore, the capabilities of the Mask are entirely dependent upon its wearer. More or less: whatever you desire most yet have acted upon least can come to fruition. When a regular Joe dons the Mask, he, much in the vein of the original wearer, Stanley Ipkiss, becomes wild, extroverted, and given the ability to wield any weapon he so desired.
8. The Infinity Gauntlet
The Infinity Gauntlet is a fictional artifact in the Marvel Universe. The Gauntlet is a glove mounted with the six Infinity Gems, each one granting its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the Universe. The gems control each of the following: Time; Space; Mind; Soul; Reality and Power. A seventh gem - Ego - is revealed later to exist. A wielder of all six Infinity Gems has, in theory, total omnipotence and can manipulate the universe on whim. The only the cosmic entity that has been shown to be beyond the power of the Gems is the Living Tribunal and is in fact capable of nullifying their power on Earth.
7. Batman's Utility Belt
Although seemingly unremarkable in appearance, the utility belt is one of Batman's most important tools in fighting crime. Composed of a Kevlar strap and metal buckle, the utility belt houses ten cylinder cartridges, which vertically clip onto the outside of the belt. The buckle itself contains a miniature camera and two-way radio. A secondary compartment behind the length of the belt houses Batman's supply of collapsible Bat-a-rangs. Each of the ten cylinders contains various tools integral to Batman's war on crime, and are interchangeable with other cylinders depending on Batman's needs for the mission. Through the years, Batman has modified the contents of his belt to accommodate various needs.
6. Wolverine's Claws
Wolverine’s entire skeletal structure, including his claws, has been artificially bonded to the nearly indestructible metal Adamantium. As a result, Wolverine’s bones are virtually unbreakable, and his claws are capable of cutting through almost any substance depending on its thickness and the amount of force he can exert. Due to his healing factor, the presence of Adamantium in his body does not interfere with his bones’ normal function of generating blood, however, since the healing does treat his metal-bondings as 'foreign substances, the factor exerts a lot of its power to constantly trying to rid his body of Adamantium. The reinforcement of his skeleton enables Wolverine to withstand high levels of physical pressure, giving his muscles sufficient force to briefly lift/press several hundred pounds. Wolverine can unsheathe any number of his foot-long claws at once, although he must keep his wrists straight at the moment his claws shoot from his forearms into his hands. When unsheathed, the claws are fully within his hands, and thus Wolverine can still bend his wrists. The claws are naturally sharp and tougher than that of normal human bone structure, allowing Wolverine to cut through most types of flesh and natural materials.
5. Hell Boy's Gun (The Samaritan) and Right Hand of Doom

The Samaritan is an oversized, uniquely large caliber four-round revolver. It fires its custom-made bullets with adequate power to easily penetrate virtually any material. The gun itself has unearthly resistance to almost all forms of attack, and includes grips carved from fragments of the True Cross. The metal of the gun is forged from a combination of Irish church bells, cold iron from crucifixes, blessed silver, and other mystic metals. The Samaritan only holds four of its oversized rounds, and is difficult to load with the large fingers on his right hand. As a result, Hellboy usually tries to load with his left hand when possible. He is only able to fire the Samaritan with his left hand.

Hellboy's right hand, referred to as the "Right Hand of Doom", consists of a large forearm and hand that seems to be made from red stone. The Hand is effectively invulnerable and feels no pain. Of course, being far larger than an ordinary human hand, the Right Hand of Doom is not very suitable for use with most objects, so Hellboy relies on his average-sized left hand to operate weapons and devices. As revealed in the graphic novel collection Strange Places, the Right Hand of Doom was formerly the right hand of one of the "greater spirits" that watched over the burgeoning Earth, and the hand the spirit used to create the dragon Ogdru Jahad. With that same hand, he bound the dragon, but then his fellow spirits turned upon him for his deeds, and destroyed him utterly - save for his right hand, which was kept and preserved by many races throughout history, including the first race of man.
4. Judge Dredd's Lawgiver Handgun
The Lawgiver is a handgun featuring semi- and fully-automatic fire, manual and automatic focusing and targeting, plus an in-built computer capable of controlling its operation. It fires a range of specialty ammunition. An in-line gunsight shows the view directly down the barrel. A Lawgiver can only be operated by its designated Judge owner, whose palm print is programmed into the gun's memory. Should an attempt be made by an unauthorized person to use the Lawgiver, it will explode in that person's hand.
3. Captain America's Shield
Captain America uses several shields throughout his history, the most recognizable of which is a nigh-indestructible discus-shaped shield made from a fusion of Vibranium with an experimental steel alloy. This alloy was created by accident and never duplicated, although efforts to reverse-engineer it results in the creation of Adamantium. Captain America often uses his shield as an offensive throwing weapon. The first instance of Captain America's trademark ricocheting shield-toss occurs in future Marvel editor-in-chief Stan Lee's first comics writing, the two-page text story "Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge" in Captain America Comics #3 (May 1941)
2. Thor's Hammer (Mjolnir)

Distinctively shaped, Mjolnir is said to be the most fearsome weapon in Norse mythology and is used to slay any challengers to Aesir supremacy. Though generally recognized and depicted as a hammer, Mjolnir is sometimes referred to as an axe or club.

The Prose Edda gives a detailed description of Mjolnir's special qualities:

"...He [Thor] would be able to strike as firmly as he wanted, whatever his aim, and the hammer would never fail, and if he threw it at something, it would never miss and never fly so far from his hand that it would not find its way back, and when he wanted, it would be so small that it could be carried inside his tunic." In addition, in the Comic Book Realm, Thor is able to maintain the power of flight with the aid of Mjolnir.
1. Green Lantern's Power Ring

The power ring has been shown capable of accomplishing virtually anything within the imagination of the one wearing it; the greater the user's willpower, the more effective the ring. No hard upper limit to the power ring's capabilities has yet been demonstrated and it is often referred to as "the most powerful weapon in the universe". Power rings allow the user to fly and to cover themselves and others with a protective, life-supporting force field, suitable for traveling through outer space, underwater and so on. The ring also generates its wearer's Green Lantern uniform; the uniform is not made out of fabric. It is created by the Power Ring whenever the wearer wills to wear it. It automatically appears over the wearer's normal clothing, and vanishes when the wearer wills to return to their civilian attire. The power ring's most distinctive effect is the generation of green 'solid-light' constructs, the precise physical nature of which has never been specified. The size, complexity and strength of these 'solid-light' constructs is limited only by the ring-bearer's willpower. Thus Green Lanterns are often seen creating cages, transportation platforms, restraints, weapons, walls, battering rams, vehicles, tools, boxing gloves, etc. The style of construct varies with the character and mindset of the person wielding the ring.

Honorable Mentions: The Witchblade, The Saint's Revolvers, Wonder Woman's Lasso

This Blog thing I enjoy has literally made me a name it at least Azerbaijan and in some locations deep in the Congo... so that's cool. Besides infrequently putting forth minimal effort doing a blog, I also try a fair bit harder to make people laugh in their cereal over at GUNAXIN.COM, which is where I actually get paid to make up stupid stuff and use foul language. Anyway... why are you still reading this? Oh, and while you're here, you might as well go check out my DeviatArt page, too! http://stewwriter.deviantart.com/
