**Before I begin, sorry about the lateness of this entry, but I've been doing battle with a nasty computer virus. So, a big fist-pump goes out to my dad who suggested Norton to kick its ass and it WORKED! Anyway, on with the show**

"So, webmaster Stew wanted a list of obscure Zombie movies. How obscure are we going here? While my immediate circle of friends has seen City Of The Living Dead, does that make it not obscure? Then I realized that I was trying too hard and just went for the gusto. Here they are in no particular order:"

Anyone familiar with the micro budget madness of Chris Seaver knows that this is one of his more ambitious projects with a huge cast of extras. I always liked Missy Donatuti in the lead. She comes off as repulsive and funny at the same time. Probably one of the most quotable flicks on the list.

Even with the crappy Netflix viewer on my computer I was hooked into this tale of zombies, alternative sex lives and what it might really be like if zombies rule the Earth. Little pockets of humanity that are driven crazy by the new way of the world. I thought the ending of the flick was anticlimactic, but overall, this is a pretty well done micro budget horror flick.

This one is tricky. It’s more of a social commentary than anything else, but it works. The zombies exist, but the media is downplaying it to such a low note that it is the least of the average Joe’s concern. When a news crew and an army guy get together to blow the story wide open their biggest threat is the horde of zombies that have been ignored for so long coming to the forefront. Very interesting take on the zombie genre.

Another social commentary clothed in a zombie flick wrapped in the devices of an action film with a little sci fi thrown in to make sure we’re paying attention. Get all that? Good, because this is one of the best zombie flicks of the new millennium and deserves to be watched by all.

Rupert Everett stars in a film that is more than a little odd. He’s a caretaker of a cemetery where the bodies have issues with staying dead. The wild cinematography with the disgusting special effects makes this a thrill ride of a film that is over before you’re ready for it. And there is no way that you will be ready for the end of this flick. I can guarantee it!

My favorite Franco film is definitely one for the list. Mainly because most people have seen the butchered scenes with the god-awful zombies shot by French director Jean Rollin. Yeah, those scenes suck. With Franco’s true version our zombies look and act a lot like you and I, but they have a more sinister purpose. And it all centers on the lead, Christina, in the film. This fever dream of a film has to be seen in its proper form and entirety to be believed.

We mentioned Jean Rollin at number 5 and now he gets his own entry in a flick I liked. Sure, my immediate circle of lunatics knows this flick, but I don’t think it’s well known to the public at large. What do you get when you combine Nazi zombies, lots of naked women and Howard Vernon? You get cinema magic. Sure, the zombies look like crap and are more blood drinkers than flesh eaters, but they still fit in the definition of zombie. The woman sunbathing at the beginning of the film is worth the price of admission. Jean Rollin knows one thing very well. He knows naked women very well and fills the screen with them. It’s funny to notice that whenever the camera goes under the surface of the lake it immediately turns into a pool! Funny stuff.

This one got famous in the seventies with the double feature tie in of I DRINK YOUR BLOOD. The bug eyed zombies in this flick are pretty cool to a little kid and kind of frightening. As an island voodoo tale this one works pretty well. Most people have heard of it, few have actually watched it and that’s a shame.

2. ZOMBIE 4: AFTER DEATH (1988) –

Okay, in Europe, the original DAWN OF THE DEAD (And it pains me that I have to say ‘original’) was titled ZOMBIE. So, when they made a quick rip off they called it ZOMBIE 2 over in Europe and here it was called ZOMBIE. This lead to a ZOMBIE 3 which a lot of people saw, but I’m betting that ZOMBIE 4 is not a widely watched flick. A group of cancer scientists try to cure cancer and that means heading to a jungle full of voodoo people. When the daughter of the voodoo priest is killed he opens one of the gates of Hell and the zombies are up and running. As a sequel to ZOMBIE it is a little lame, but as a stand on it’s own it works pretty well.

Okay, a little drone lands on Earth in an alley. A homeless guy disturbs it and it explodes. This causes an electromagnetic pulse that basically does two things. One it turns anyone who was in the blast radius and unprotected, into a zombie. A man, flesh eating mindless creature. Oh yeah, it also does what a regular EMP does. Nothing works. Cars, lights, you name it. This brings a rag tag group of survivors together who are trying to get away from the infected area and to somewhere safe. But where is safe? They are working on zero information and running on pure survival instinct. But, what makes this truly a number one worthy flick? Why because your faithful writer is one of the zombies! That’s right, my oldest son, Seann and I went for his birthday when he turned fifteen and we stayed from dusk until dawn working on the film. It was a blast and Seann and I got a couple of really good closeups in the film.
There ya go. Seek these out and watch them true lovers of the zombie genre. You’ll be glad you did.
